Eye hemorrhage

Subconjunctival hemorrhage is a conjunctival bleeding, also known as hypophagia. The conjunctiva includes several small, fragile, easily damaged or broken blood vessels. Blood flows into the space between the conjunctiva and the sclera as this occurs.

Such a hemorrhage may be caused by a heavy cough or sneezing, dehydration or a side effect of thinning the blood. Weight lifting, vomiting, rude rubbing of the eyes may also be the cause. Additionally the cause may be suffocation or attempts during constipation. This can also lead to mild postoperative problems in eye surgery such as LASIK.

Although the bruise stains the skin blue or black, at the beginning subconjunctive hemorrhages have a vivid red colour, visible through the transparent conjunctiva. These can later spread and develop a green and yellow colour, like a bruise. Gone normally within 2 weeks.

Whereas the presence appears alarming, subconjunctive hemorrhage is usually a painless and harmless condition; however, if there is no visible bleeding in the back of the brain, it can be associated with high blood pressure, eye damage, or a fracture of the foundation.

Eye hemorrhage, which sometimes does not cause any discomfort other than aesthetic, can be a sign of serious illness. What to do if a vessel burst in the eye, and whether it is dangerous, not everyone knows.

Causes of hemorrhage

Why is it that the eyeball protein unexpectedly turns red, for no apparent reason? This is only a very small spot and sometimes a blood stain will cover the whole sclera completely. The primary explanation for this is the fragility of the smallest vessels-the capillaries that touch all eye tissues. The cause for blood vessel fragility in the eye is even deeper, and is one of the signs of serious diseases:

Arterial hypertension. A sharp surge in pressure during hypertensive crisis contributes to the violation of the integrity of blood vessels. The vessels do not withstand sudden pressure and burst. And it’s good that the vessel burst under the conjunctiva, and not somewhere in another organ.

Diabetes. One of its manifestations is diabetic angiopathy. Increased blood sugar leads to the destruction of blood vessels. The disease is manifested not only by hemorrhages in the eye, but also by noticeable visual impairment. Vessels can be damaged for no apparent reason, even from a little physical exertion.

  • Infectious diseases accompanied by fever or profuse vomiting (foodborne illness, rotavirus infection, dysentery, etc.).
  • Eye diseases - conjunctivitis, keratitis, in which hemorrhages in the eye are observed in combination with profuse lacrimation.
  • Eye injuries - a sharp mechanical effect on the eyeball leads to rupture of blood vessels. This can be added and injuries associated with eye surgery.
  • Blood diseases caused by poor coagulability.
